greg stone flooring warehouse
A family business with deep roots in the local community, Greg Stone Carpets came from humble beginnings in Portslade, Brighton & Hove, over 40 years ago. Back in 1977, Greg Stone started his career in Boundary Road as a teenager, working for the family business A&S Carpets and learning his craft, one carpet at a time.

By 1980, Greg and his family had built up a thriving business, running three stores in Portslade, Burgess Hill and Eastbourne. Sadly, the family lost their dad that year and it was left to the brothers to carry on the business.

And so, Stone Carpets was born. It took a lot of hard work, a team of loyal staff, great carpet fitters and, most importantly, loyal customers who kept coming back for more. Business flourished – “we felt so grown up at the time, although my big brother was 27 and I was only 19 years old,” Greg remembers.

1985 saw the company move to larger premises in Victoria Road, Portslade, where they took over the warehouse premises from Tower Carpets. Their sales strategy was simple: to show hundreds of room-size remnants under one roof – a winning formula even today.

In 1987, the warehouse lost its entire rear wall in the Great Gale of October 1987. Greg and the boys had no option but to sell off remnants covered in rubble – talk about a smash-and-grab sale! In the absence of any site security, they camped out to protect their stock, while some kind customers brought them soup and food.

By 1999, Greg was in sole charge of running the Victoria Road business as Greg Stone Carpets. When the site was re-developed in 2004, the company relocated to a new development on the Portslade seafront. At the same time, the business name was changed to Greg Stone Flooring, reflecting a strategic move towards offering a much greater choice of flooring options.Greg Stone Team

More than 20 years later, Greg Stone Flooring are the leading and largest independent flooring supplier in the area – often imitated but never bettered. While the customer base has widened, they’ve managed to retain many loyal customers, often dealing with two or three generations of the same families.

With service excellence at the core of everything that happens at Greg Stone Flooring, the company still specialises in carpet supply and fitting but offers so much more besides. Today, they sell laminate, vinyl and cushion flooring, while ever-popular Karndean flooring is available at rock-bottom internet prices.

Their tried and tested approach of stocking hundreds of large carpet and vinyl end-of-rolls for immediate takeaway, selling top-quality products in an endless choice of colours and textures, and displaying thousands of samples for quick delivery and installation is exactly what the market continues to demand.
